Network
Of course all servers are directly connected to the internet. Depending on which kind of server you chose when ordering it, it might have an IPv4 address or not. In any case, your server always has an IPv6 address. However, IPv6-only servers are also available and those server don't come with an IPv4 address and can't be upgraded to have one.
Traffic
Depending on your server's flavor, you have a certain amount of included traffic with your plan.
The traffic usage is being calculated over the calendar month and not coupled to your server's runtime extension. Your server's traffic will not be reset when you extend it but rather on the first day of each month (e.g. on December 1, 00:00 UTC)
That approach is especially fair for our customers because usually it means that you get some extra traffic to use. If you order a server on the 15th of a month for one month, you can use your included traffic for the remaining days of the current month plus the included traffic of the next month.
Traffic Overusage
In case you used up all of your included traffic, your server's network speed will be reduced to 25 MBit/s. Aside from that your server will continue to operate normally, and we'll let you know about the speed limitation via e-mail notification.
If you plan to use more than the included traffic, you can increase your server's included traffic by purchasing a traffic upgrade in the "Upgrades" tab under your server's detail page.
Network Speed
All servers are connected to our network with a 100 Mbps port. That maximum port speed can be upgraded to 1 Gbps by ordering the Gigabit Upgrade for your server. Please note that the network speed is not guaranteed and can vary depending on the current network load and the target the traffic is going to.
Speedtests
In case you open a support ticket regarding network speed issues, we will always ask you to provide a speedtest from your server. Please make sure that you are running any speedtest actually and directly from your server. If you are using your server as VPN or proxy, it's not sufficient to run the speedtest from your connected device as the network route between your client and your server will also affect the speedtest results.
You can use the following command to perform a speedtest from your server:
Ubuntu and Debian
apt-get install -y speedtest-cli && speedtest-cli
Windows
Please use a browser to visit speedtest.net and perform a speedtest from your server.
